1776 and 2024 Parallels in the Declaration of Independence
One of the most important US documents is the Declaration of Independence. Few people have read it. If they did they would see a clear parallel between the situation the original American Patriots faced in 1776 and what we see unfolding in 2024. Lets take a close look at those parallels.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
Patriots declared independence from British rule in 1776. One of the major concerns was the control the British crown had over religion. In 2024 the US faces a communist threat that of course will dissolve every religion.
Without any shadow of doubt the struggles we see today are spiritual in nature. Good verses evil. Slavery verses freedom. The right to choose. Freedom of speech. The right to own arms. The list goes on. The left began by attacking God and creation with thousand genders and men getting pregnant. Their green deal is designed to convince the world man controls the weather. The left insists conservative Christians are the greatest threat this nation has ever seen. The introduction to the Declaration of Independence established the fact, it was written by conservative Christian Patriots.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
The beginning of the Declaration of Independence is self explanatory and known by most people. Including those who never read the entire document. It took some time to finally see all men and women equal. Which actually took a few Amendments to the Constitution. Finally after demonstrations in the 1960’s the US began to see a society open and accepting of all people no matter what their race, creed, color, religion, or country of origin. The country was filled with ethnic restaurants, stores, festivals attended by people of all back grounds where the average American citizen celebrated our differences in culture, food, clothing, as well as views carried over from the homeland. The US was finally reaching the long awaited goal of all Americans accepting people for who they were and respecting the minor differences. Which also included religious differences.
The authors of the Declaration of Independence gave us the impression they could see into the future when they added the part about, “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
The US government was originally designed to be governed by the people for the people. It took many generations, but the average American grew fond of different cultures and life styles. As long as they remained within the law and showed mutual respect. That was not asking much and for the most part Americans confirmed those basic concepts. That was until democrats decided to step in, create divisions, and campaign on those differences making speech after speech insisting this group was oppressing that group. Democrats and the media went on a blitz to convince the American public people were chained to their thought patterns based on their nationality. It was a simple concept created by democrats to take control of the government away from the people by creating problems that didn’t exist. Okay, those problems still exist among small radical groups but were not shared by the general public. Turning those divisions into a national crisis was the first step to securing power by convincing the public only the elite in Washington could solve the problem they created. Which basically sums up the 2024 election with Harris running on the promise, only she can solve the problems democrats created over the past 3 ½ years. As we can see, it was never the job of the government to get involved in issues unless the public instructed them to get involved. The authors of the Declaration of Independence made it clear, government was to follow the instructions of the people. The average American in 2024 has the same attitude as Patriots in 1776. The government needs to stay out of our lives and we will choose how we want to live.
–That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Putting this into context, early American Patriots lived under the destructive powers of the English crown. The worst problem was created by local governors granted control of colonies, towns, villages, cities, and districts with unlimited control. The English crown granted control of areas within America to companies in England based on payments to the king as well as contracts guaranteeing the king a piece of the action. Basically king George III didn’t want to hear about problems in the new world. He wanted his share paid and paid on time. To quite the American colonies, governors enforced strict laws and worked on dividing the colonies to keep them weak. Early American Patriots saw how those governors used division to their advantage and planned to change that. We all know the history of unifying the original 13 colonies and once that was accomplished, the Declaration of Independence was signed.
The original 13 colonies were ripe for the concept of division. Early towns and villages were settled by people from different cultures gathering together for what they thought was security. Religions escaping the iron glove of the king also congregated in towns and villages to practice their faith in peace. Since the early American colonies were naturally divided, governors in those districts used that to their advantage. Cites were another issue where large quantities of disgruntled people could find common ground. The solution, create social classes. A number of people from the upper crust of England settled in the new land to occupy positions of power overseeing investment ventures. The upper class for the most part was loyal to the king. To keep the middle class under control while increasing profits a simple system was introduced. Only the governor appointed by the company controlling the colony was allowed to import goods. Early Americans running businesses could only export goods through the company running the colony. Since there was only one source to sell exports to, prices were fixed keeping putting every American business at the mercy of the governor. The threat of taking away those businesses kept the middle class in line. Of course there were poor people who were kept poor and often faced the justice system created by those governors to face quick trials and severe sentences as a reminder of who was in control. Governors used every fear factor to the best of their ability.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.
Knowing a little of what the colonies faced tells us why it was necessary to unite the colonies and declare their freedom. Every American was being held back by the king and his crew of governors. In the eyes of the early American Patriot there was only one solution. Independence.
He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
It must be noted, early Americans attempted diplomatic solutions to the problem offering compromises, solutions, requests, and filing endless grievances that fell on deaf ears.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
Patriots stressed the point, they tried to secure a peaceful solution but they may have been talking to a wall. It was evident either the king enjoyed news of the suffering or didn’t care. It became evident, as long as profits rolled in, the king was not interested in listening to any complaints.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
Early colonies were given a false sense of representation only to find their representatives were hand picked by the governors. When faced with this complaint the only solution was, to eliminated the little representation the colonies had.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
In today’s politics we call this secret classified meetings. Today we also have issues with laws entering congress often consisting of thousands of pages few people read stuffed with favors to special interest groups, major companies working with government, and laws harmful to the well being of the general public. Those laws are given flowery titles like, The New Green Deal, The Inflation Reduction Act, and other misleading titles with major media highlighting one or two concepts that sound good on the surface while the bills are packed with hidden agendas that amount to nothing less that fraud and criminal theft. The Declaration of Independence declared those secrets harmful to the American public.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
Early American Patriots worked hard to form political groups to present grievances, offer solutions, and reach a peaceful compromise. The answer was to outlaw and disband any group that didn’t fall inline and follow commands without question.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
It is interesting to note, early American Patriots experimented with democratic forms of government and elections before signing the Declaration of Independence. Which explains why they all agreed to be represented by a Republic form of government after gaining independence. Democratic forms of government were a compromise and always will be. A pretend form of independence using elected officials who are always under the control of a central command. In their case, the governors and ultimately the king. Elected officials were free to collect complains and ideas. Even if held in agreement by the vast majority and in the concept of a simple democracy should be adopted as law, there is always that overcasting vote of the powers in control. Which explained why Patriots adopted and refined the definition and concept of a Republic making it abundantly clear, the government is forbidden to take any action without the concent of the people.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
The king and governors controlled every aspect of immigration deciding who is welcome and who isn’t. Which is a problem we see introduced by the Biden administration with the open border replacing the immigration process used for generations. The US government was always in control of immigration. The original Patriots were not against immigration laws, but were against the influx of immigrant clearly advancing the interests of the crown.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
The original 13 colonies faced a two tiered justice system at every level. They witnessed the upper class loyal to the crown commit felony crimes of rape, murder, kidnapping, and other crimes without fear of charges. Patriots also witnessed those guilty of minor crimes face sever penalties including public execution to add to the fear factor. Which is not much different than what the US is witnessing today under Biden’s two tier justice system with charges being filed against former President Trump, while at the same time repeat felons are released without bail in blue cities.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
Americans watched for years as judges from English courts settled in the new world, given the grandest houses in town, lived luxurious lives, and everyone knew the verdict in every case before the first piece of evidence was presented.
We’ve witnessed a resurgence of that form of justice system since Biden took office. Including charges filed against former President Trump, designed to spread fear. If they can go after a former President, they can go after anyone. On the other side of the coin we see repeat felony criminals released, no questions asked. We also have a new trend emerging called asylum. Along with all the illegal immigrants crossing the border, Latin American gangs are exporting gang members establishing their presence all over the US. In so called, “sanctuary cities,” agreements are arranged that relocate felony criminals from one city to another when those criminals are arrested and face charges. The left calls that asylum. Which basically means, they protect illegal aliens from criminal charges because they claim asylum in the US to escape prosecution in other countries. Leaders on the left as well as the media wants to public to assume those criminals from other countries faced political or religions persecution and should not face the justice system in the US. It sounds like a noble cause but in reality is another form of fear created by and spread by the left.
Another problem the US faces is the same problem early Americans witnessed with judges and other officials who never worked a day in their life but lived luxurious lives at the expense of the average tax payer. Today we see people elected to office with no work experience, often living normal lives with normal incomes only to become multi-millionaires within their first year of office. This problem exists from the local level up to federal levels of government. It is so common, politicians expect the general public to accept it with no question. Politicians want the public to think, those people run the government, they should live comfortable lives. In reality the general public today knows exactly what the original Patriots were feeling.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
One of the tactics the king and governors used to control the masses was to send swarms of dedicated, loyal subjects to the colonies to spy on, harrass, and control the masses. Today we see the same tactics being used by agencies under the control of the federal government including law enforcement agencies, the IRS, and newly appointed agencies they claim are working to eliminate false and misleading information. Today’s Patriots call that censorship.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
It was not unusual to use armies to control the general public. Based on the Declaration of Independence the colonies saw armies given the task to keep the peace. On the surface we do not see any branch of the US armed services used against American citizens. We do see a shift in the armed services designed to gut the military and replace them with factions dedicated and loyal to changes in government policy initiated by the Biden administration. We also see huge numbers of military age men crossing the border in record numbers as well as dozens of gang members congregating in strategic locations across the US. Another warning sign is large amounts of rural land has been purchased by China with unknown numbers of Chinese settled in those locations. Many near major military bases. We are facing the same threats the authors of the Declaration of Independence thought it was important to list for future generations.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
The king and governors placed the military and their leaders above every civil power. The military answered to no one expect the governors and the king which opened the door for atrocities always associated with such structures.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
Patriots stood against every form of government presenting false claims of representation. Governors and the king attempted to appease Patriots by giving in and promising representation which was always a false illusion. Do we have visions of that false illusion today? News has popped up about local mayors in major cities and small cities elected because they promised one thing but delivered quite the opposite. Major cities like New York and Chicago are only 2 examples. Those mayors promised to face the immigration problem head on. Mayor Lightfoot lost her reelection bid in Chicago for allowing the immigration issue to worsen. Ties to real estate investments and tax dollars funding those investments didn’t help her bid for reelection. Chicago chose to go with a former police chief who claimed to have the experience to deal with the issue. Instead the problems increased and worsened across the city spreading into suburbs. New York faced similar problems and initiated a different response copying tactics introduced in California making it legal to steal under $1000 a day. Crime skyrocketed in every democratic run sanctuary city. Not only are we facing government agencies contrary to our natural laws and security, we find out the original Patriots faced those same issues.
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
Cities, town, and villages were forced to house large masses of British troops at taxpayer expense. Do we see that today? Talk to border towns forced to support millions of illegal immigrants at their expense, knowing many are gang members. Talk to people in small towns like Springfield, Ohio being forced to house and care for 15,000 to 25,000 Haitian immigrants escaping civil war in Haiti who the US government granted special status. Were those immigrants brought in as cheap labor for a handful of companies in the area? Are those companies associate with the WEF?
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
Early American Patriots were well aware of felonies committed by people close to the crown, even getting away with murder. Those mock trials angered the early Patriots enough, they included that grievance in the Declaration of Independence.
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
Patriots knew they would never see fair trade or catch an even break as long as local governors were in charge of all imports and exports. Early Americans face price fixing in ways hard to imagine. Then again, we see the same thing happening here with record inflation controlled by a group of companies known as the World Economic Forum, the WEF. That collection of major companies around the world control the media, food processing, distribution, a wide range of manufacturing, mining, raw material processing, and a host of vital companies across the globe. Not to mention the membership and cooperation of host of world and political leaders. It was not a surprise to see those companies raise prices at the same time. Basically a monopoly controlled by a group of companies agreeing to price fixing and non-competition. Today the world faces the exact same problems early Patriots faced in early America.
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
Taxes have always been a problem and always will be. It is interesting to see one candidate campaign on raising taxes. With a group of followers who actually believe the government can tax the top 1% of the counties wealth and that would generate enough money for the other 99% to live in comfort with only half that number actually working and contributing to the welfare of the country. Democrats have tinkered with a few changes to the dreams communists have been using for generations to lure unsuspecting individuals into their camp.
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
Authors of the Declaration and Independence addressed this issues when they framed the Constitution so we would never see this problem again.
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
The most important complaints from the original Patriots was the constant changes in laws. Common sense was out the window and Patriots saw how the law and courts were used as weapons against the people. Are we seeing a repeat of that today?
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
Patriots saw the promises of a fair government only to see the constant extension of double standards. Pretty much what we see today with a one political party insisting we need federal laws on abortion, federal gun control, and other issues. In other words, arguments insisting the federal government needs more control. The early Patriots viewed control as an act of war.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
The Declaration of Independence included a list of actions by the king Patriots declared as acts of war against the people living in the 13 colonies.
Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.
The authors of the Declaration of Independence wanted the world to know every peaceful solution was offered and rejected. They ran out of options and the final decision rested in the hands of the king.
We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
The conclusion of the Declaration of Independence offered two solutions, war or peace. The Declaration of Independence made it abundantly clear, the US was no longer under the control of the crown and must be dwelt with as an independent nation ruled by the people with no outside influence. The Declaration of Independence in fact left two options for the king. Honor the independence of the 13 United colonies and negotiate accordingly. Or face the consequences of denying the Patriots the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
